About Us

The beginnings of a new well

Our Water Supply

Our water comes from drilled wells located throughout various locations within our service area. The source of your drinking water is obtained from eighteen (18) active drilled wells. Our drinking water is groundwater obtained from wells located in Twin Lakes Subdivision and wells located in Greene Mountain Lake Subdivision. Storage facilities are located in both subdivisions. The water is treated with chlorine for disinfection. Additional treatment is provided to control naturally occurring iron and manganese in our some of our well sources.

Our Roots

Mountain Lakes Water Company began serving our customers in the Greene Mountain Lake subdivision in 1970 when Greene Mountain Lake wanted to connect onto the Town of Stanardsville's water system. Being denied access we drilled our first well and installed water lines to serve recreational camping lots. From there we grew into a residential housing community and in 1989 we purchased the Twin Lakes water system that had been placed on a building moratorium. By that time we had constructed our main 108,000 gallon storage tank and moved our booster station to the Twin Lakes system in order to provide a stable water supply and allow the ban on building to be lifted. That began a many years effort to install many miles of incomplete water lines within the Twin Lakes subdivision that was halted when the moratorium was initiated. Since then we have connected both subdivisions by a line along Swift Run Road.
